Construction of Sacred Heart Church was completed in 1999. This new building replaced the original church, built in 1902, and weakened to the point of collapse by the Loma-Prieta earthquake in 1989. The floor plan of the church evolved primarily from a desire to instill a sense of community through fan-shaped seating, and secondarily as a means to lessen the building's impact upon an important urban intersection. The church seats approximately 350. The daily mass chapel seats approximately twenty.
